- ItemAre internal dialogues in young adults influenced by mother-father incongruence in parental attitudes assessed retrospectively?(ReKUL, 2019-01-10) Puchalska-Wasyl, Małgorzata; Jankowski, TomaszAccording to the goodness-of-fit model of psychosocial functioning, if environmental expectations are consonant with an individual's predispositions, that person will present more adaptive functioning. Parents are the first exponents of social requirements, expressed not only verbally but also nonverbally, in the form of parental attitudes. According to dialogical self theory, parents’ attitudes are reflected in their offspring’s dialogical self as the I–positions of the father and the mother. In the case of incongruence between the parents in these attitudes, an external conflict is introduced into the self. Difficulties in resolving this conflict may result in an experience of uncertainty that stimulates a person to engage in internal dialogues (IDs). In this context we posed the hypothesis that the greater the incongruence between mother’s and father’s parental attitudes, as assessed retrospectively by the child, the greater is the intensity of IDs in adult offspring’s life. One hundred and seventy-six young adults (92 female and 84 male), aged between 20 and 32 years participated in the study. We applied two methods of assessment: the Internal Dialogical Activity Scale and the Questionnaire of Retrospective Assessment of Parental Attitudes. To verify our hypothesis, we conducted a response survey analysis. The results have shown that the more the mother rejects and the less she protects, and the more the father accepts and the more he is overprotective, the greater is the intensity of IDs. Our findings are discussed in light of the broader literature on parental attitudes and IDs.
- ItemAssertiveness Skills Scale. Study Data(2022-11-16) Zarzycka, Beata; Tomaka, Kamil; Król-Fijewska, MariaRaw data from the study. This study aimed to develop a measure of assertiveness, the Assertiveness Skills Scale (ASS). Assertiveness is the attitude of a person toward himself and other people, which means treating oneself and others with equal respect and regard for the rights. Assertiveness serves to increase self-satisfaction and good relationships with those around you. Four studies were conducted to develop the ASS. In Study 1., we generated an item pool for the ASS and established its internal structure using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In Study 2., we confirmed the internal structure of the ASS using the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Study 3. examined the convergent and discriminant validity of the ASS. Study 4 examined test–retest reliability of the ASS. The psychometric properties of the ASS and the potential utility of the ASS are discussed.

- ItemCompulsive and compensative buying among online shoppers. An empirical study(2021) Adamczyk, GrzegorzThe present study examines the phenomenon of compensative and compulsive buying among online shoppers. Firstly, the obtained empirical data make it possible to estimate the prevalence of compensative and compulsive buying among the general population of Poles aged 15 years old and over, with the sample split into users and non-users of the e-commerce market offer. Secondly, the conducted analysis shows to what extent the prevalence of compulsive and compensative buying is differentiated by the frequency of online shopping, by the extent of the expenditures on online shopping compared with offline shopping, by attitudes towards online shopping, and by sociodemographic conditions (gender, age, monthly net income of household). The findings come from a survey conducted in 2019 based on a nationwide statistically representative sample of 1,000 Poles aged 15 years old and over. Drawing on this survey based on the German Compulsive Buying Indicator (GCBI), the prevalence of compulsive buying is observed at about 3% and compensative buying at about 12%. Dividing the general population into online and offline shoppers, one can see serious differences between both target groups; the share of compulsive and compensative buyers in the segment of online shoppers amounts to 3.6% and 16.9%, while among non-online shoppers – 3.3% and 10.1%. The strongest susceptibility to compulsive buying is characteristic of female online shoppers having very positive attitudes towards online shopping and doing online shopping very frequently.
- ItemCorrelates of preference for harmonic schema-based vs. reference-free musical improvisation in professional musicians and music therapy clients(2025) Masiak, ElżbietaThe purpose of the study was to analyze preferences for different types of musical improvisation: improvisation based on a pre-composed schema or structure (i.e., harmonic progressions, melodic/rhythmic motifs, or other non-musical patterns) and free improvisation (defined as spontaneous playing without any prior assumptions or patterns to lean on). Additionally, the study examined the sociocultural, motivational, and meaning-related correlates of these preferences, as well as their connection to individual identity and self-perception among contemporary improvising musicians from diverse international socioprofessional backgrounds. The study was conducted through an online survey consisting of both closed and open-ended questions. It included 38 improvising musicians from 11 nationalities. The findings suggest that most participants value both types of improvisation equally or display a degree of ambivalence, while a distinct preference for either schema-based or free improvisation is less common. Notably, those with strong preferences for one approach over the other differ in their conceptualization and interpretation of improvisation.

Three scales were used: the Circumplex Identity Modes Questionnaire, the Internal Dialogical Activity Scale-Revised, and the Adolescent Deconversion Scale.
- ItemInclusion of Transcendence and Literal Interpretation on Perceived Stability of Marriage in Polish Spouses. Study Data(2022) Zarzycka, Beata; Tomaka, Kamil; Mahoney, Annette; Rybarski, RadosławRaw data from the study. The purpose of this cross-sectional study with 470 Polish married (67%) or cohabiting (33%) individuals (237 women and 233 men) was to examine whether and how two dimensions of individual religiousness (Inclusion vs. Exclusion of Transcendence (IT) and Symbolic vs. Literal Interpretation (SI)) as assessed by the Post-Critical Beliefs Scale were associated with the perceived stability of marriage (Marriage Stability Scale). As expected, greater affirmation of God’s existence as real (i.e., higher Inclusion of Transcendence) and greater literal interpretation of religious doctrines (i.e., lower Symbolic Interpretation) were associated with greater perceived stability of marriage. The former association was also mediated in expected directions by the greater sanctification of marriage; this mediation pathway was moderated by the dimension of symbolic and literal interpretation such that the mediation pathway from the IT to sanctification to marital stability was markedly stronger for those with more literal views of religious doctrine.
- ItemInner dialogical communication and pathological personality traits(ReKUL, 2019) Łysiak, MałgorzataDialogicality and its relation with personality traits was quite explored since the dialogical self theory has evolved. However, the latest edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) proposes a new hybrid personality disorder system and thereby a new model of pathological personality traits. As of now there are no studies which shows the relationships between self-talk, internal dialogicality and pathological traits. Thus, the aim of this study was twofold: (a) investigation the relationship between self-talk and pathological personality traits (b) exploration the possible affinity between pathological structure of personality and dialogicality. A representative sample of 458 individuals from the nonclinical population, aged 18-67 (M=30.99, SD=10.27), including 52% women completed three questionnaires: Self-Talk Scale (STS) by Brinthaupt, Hein, and Kramer, the Internal Dialogical Activity Scale (IDAS) by Oleś, and the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5-SF) by Krueger, Derringer, Markon, Watson and Skodol. To verify the correspondence between self-talk, internal dialogues and pathological personality traits the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients (Pearson’s r) and canonical correlation analysis were used. The results supported the hypotheses about the specific relationship between internal dialogical activity and five crucial dysfunctional personality traits related to the categorical-dymensional DSM-5 system of diagnosis. People, who characterize emotional lability, anxiousness and separation insecurity (high negative affectivity), with unusual beliefs and experiences as well as eccentricity (high psychoticism) are prone to provide ruminative and confronting dialogues. The correlation between pathological personality traits and self-talk were statistically significant, but the relationships are very small.
- ItemInternal Dialogue as a Mediator in the Relationship Between Prayer and Well-Being(ReKUL, 2019-01-01) Puchalska-Wasyl, Małgorzata; Zarzycka, BeataPrayer, as spiritual communication with God, is a significant part of every major world religion and a frequent religious practice of believers across the globe. When people are praying, they are not only communicating with God (upward prayer), but in the presence of God they are also exploring their relationships with themselves (inward prayer) and with other people (outward prayer). According to Baesler (2012) prayerful communication creates and sustains these relationships, therefore we assume that internal dialogues can be involved in prayer. The aim of this article is to examine whether internal dialogues can be mediators in the relationship between upward, inward and outward prayer and well-being. A total of 223 respondents (160 female and 63 male) participated in the study. The Prayer Thoughts Scale by Ladd and Spilka, the Internal Dialogical Activity Scale by Oleś, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale by Ryff were applied to the research. The results showed that internal dialogue serves as a mediator for the relationship between inward, outward and upward prayer and well-being. Inward prayer increases ruminative and confronting dialogues, which in turn decrease well-being. Upward prayer increases well-being by lowering ruminative dialogues. Outward prayer enhances well-being through its effect on supportive dialogues. Additionally, social simulation dialogues, when affecting outward prayer, have a detrimental effect on well-being.
- ItemKorpus źródeł: Kościół katolicki w Polsce i jego wierni wobec ograniczeń wolności praktykowania religii w okresie pierwszej fali pandemii Covid-19(2022) Chmielewski, Mirosław; Nowak, Małgorzata; Stanisz, Piotr; Szulich-Kałuża, Justyna; Wadowski, DariuszZasób obejmuje materiały źródłowe wykorzystane w artykule pt.: „Kościół katolicki w Polsce i jego wierni wobec ograniczeń wolności praktykowania religii w okresie pierwszej fali pandemii Covid-19”. - ItemLinks between types of value orientations and consumer behaviours. An empirical study(2021)The present study concerns the relation of value orientations and consumer behaviours. Although the idea of connections between both areas is not new, the article contributes to the knowledge about relations between specific consumer behaviours and social value orientations. Using the obtained data, we examine to what extent the prosocial, reciprocal, and egoistic value orientations coexist with compensative, compulsive, and demonstrative buying. The analysis confirms the hypotheses that representatives of the reciprocal and egoistic orientations show susceptibility to compensative and compulsive buying to a greater extent than persons preferring other value orientations. In addition, the data show co-dependence of the reciprocal value orientation and demonstrative buying, while the prosocial value orientation seems to protect against compulsive buying. According to the regression analysis, this effect disappears if prosocials suffer from low self-esteem at the same time being characterised by strong materialism. All hypothesised relations between value orientations and consumer behaviours have been analysed in multidimensional models considering materialism, self-esteem, age, gender as the main factors of compensative and compulsive buying. The findings come from the 2017 survey based on a sample of 1,121 adults. The German Compulsive Buying Indicator and Lange’s Scale of Demonstrative Buying were introduced to measure consumer behaviours.

- ItemParental Attachment Styles and Adolescent Deconversion: The Mediating Role of Problematic Facebook Use(2022) Zarzycka, Beata; Grupa, Michał; Krok, Dariusz; Rynasiewicz, AgataPrevious studies have demonstrated links between parental attachment styles and religiosity. However, only a few studies have focused on how attachment styles may affect deconversion. This study analyzed the relationships between parental attachment styles and deconversion among adolescents. The mediating role of problematic Facebook use will also be examined. Participants were 550 high school students aged between 14 and 19 (M = 16.36, SD = 1.28). The Experiences in Close Relationships Scale, the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale, and the Adolescent Deconversion Scale were applied to the research. The results showed that the anxious and avoidant attachment styles correlated positively, whereas the secure attachment style correlated negatively with deconversion. Problematic Facebook use was a mediator in the parental anxious attachment-deconversion relationship. The findings supported that anxious parental relationships may significantly contribute to leaving religion in adolescents.
- ItemPassing, old age, retirement, death - attitudes toward old age and aging. SPSS database(2020) Adamczyk, MonikaThe key research problem is the correlation between the adopted temporal perspective within the membership of a specific media generation: Z, X, Y, BB, and selected socio-demographic characteristics. This is because more often attitudes toward the future, the past, or the present are determined by gender, education, or marital status, rather than by age and associated generational group membership. The analyses based on empirical research conducted by means of a diagnostic survey (face-to-face interviews) using the technique of a computer-assisted interview questionnaire – CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview) interviews were conducted in the homes of respondents on a nationwide random sample of households – 1006 Polish people (2020).
