    Adama Marczyńskiego optyczność w przestrzeni

    Celem artykułu jest analiza wybranych dzieł Adama Marczyńskiego z perspektywy zagadnienia optyczności czy też wizualności rzeźby. Te pojęcia nawiązują do uwag Clementa Greenberga na temat rzeźby nowoczesnej i jego stwierdzenia iż ta nowa rzeźba na skutek modernistycznej "redukcji" okazała się być niemal tak wizualna jak malarstwo. Dzieła Adama Marczyńskiego z lat 60. i 70. zazwyczaj są rozpatrywane w odniesieniu do konstruktywistycznego obrazu-przedmiotu. Na początku lat 60. artysta zrezygnował z tradycyjnie pojmowanego malarstwa i zwrócił się ku półprzestrzennym kolażom, wykonanym z kawałków drewna, dykty lub zardzewiałego metalu. Zaczął także projektować formy rzeźbiarskie, zwłaszcza podczas spotkań plenerowo-sympozjalnych, jak np. "Kompozycja elementów zmiennych" (I Biennale Form Przestrzennych w Elblągu, 1965) czy "Wieża światła" (z Januszem Orbitowskim, Sympozjum Wrocław ’70, 1970, niezrealizowany projekt). Oprócz wspomnianych wyżej prac zostały omówione "Interwencje" Marczyńskiego, zaprezentowane podczas VIII Spotkania Artystów i Teoretyków Sztuki w Osiekach (1970). Artysta wykorzystał drewniane kasetony - które pojawiały się już wcześniej w jego seriach rytmicznych kompozycji: "Układy otwarte" i "Dekompozycje" – tym razem umieszczając je bezpośrednio na drzewach, w naturalnym środowisku. Oprócz perspektywy "optyczności" pojawia się tu także kwestia ich dwoistej mobilności: w interakcji z przestrzenią i relacji do widza.

    Against the psych causative alternation in Polish

    The paper examines Object Experiencer (henceforth, OE)/Subject Experiencer (henceforth, SE) verb alternations in Polish in order to check whether Polish exhibits the causative/ anticausative alternation in the psych domain (psych causative alternation of Alexiadou and Iordăchioaia 2014, henceforth A&I 2014). The focus is on two types of SE reflexive alternants of OE verbs, i.e., (i) SE forms with an obligatory instrumental case-marked DP derived from stative OE roots, and (ii) SE forms with an optional instrumental DP derived from eventive OE roots. It is argued that in both cases the reflexive SE alternants of either stative or eventive OE verbs have an obligatory or optional instrumental DP which acts as a complement and represents a Target/Subject Matter (henceforth, T/SM, cf. Pesetsky 1995), not a Cause. Therefore, the reflexive OE/SE verb alternation cannot be of the causative/ anticausative type. Monovalent reflexive SE verbs, lacking an instrumental DP altogether, are unergative (Reinhart 2001), not unaccusative (contra A&I 2014). The overall conclusion reached in the paper is that the psych causative alternation is absent in Polish.

    Analiza zastosowania wymogów formalnych i merytorycznych w tłumaczeniu poświadczonym na przykładzie studenckiego przekładu polskiego i niemieckiego wyroku rozwodowego

    Undoubtedly, correct translation of legal texts is considered one of the most demanding challenges for translators. Moreover, exclusively certified translation produced by sworn translators is deemed legally binding. The object of the analysis are two divorce decrees – a Polish and a German one, respectively, which were excerpted from the book by Iluk and Kubacki (2006) and translated by the second-degree Students of Applied Linguistics at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, who at that point had already received two years of intensive training in legal translation. It was tested whether both formal and content-related principles of certified translation were followed by juxtaposing the students’ translation with the model certified translation published by Dahlmanns and Kubacki (2014), who are considered experts in this field. The results proved to be satisfactory, however, they also depict major difficulties, which are – in the vast majority of cases – typical of beginning translators.

    Antifaschistischer Mythos als Lebenslüge. Zur Enttabuisierung und Dechiffrierung des falschen Umgangs mit der NS- Vergangenheit in „Wir töten Stella“ Marlen Haushofers

    Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird – am Bespiel der Novelle Wir töten Stella Marlen Haushofers – auf die in der österreichischen Öffentlichkeit bis in die späten 1970er Jahre präsenten Strategien hingewiesen, die NS-Schuld zu verdrängen und zu marginalisieren. Für den Ausgangspunkt der Überlegungen dient die Aussage des Soziologen R. M. Lepsius, der im Kontext der NS-Verantwortung von der Externalisierung des Nationalsozialismus in Österreich spricht. Er meint damit den Versuch Österreichs, die Verantwortung für das NS-Verbrechen auf das Hitlerdeutschland zu verschieben und sich somit für das erste NS-Opfer stilisieren zu wollen. Die zwanzig Jahre nach dem Anschluss publizierte Novelle Haushofers initiiert in Österreich die kritische Debatte über die NS-Vergangenheit, die von etlichen österreichischen Schriftstellerinnen fortgesetzt und ausgetragen wird. Vor dem Hintergrund einer privaten Tragödie stellt die Autorin Parallelen zwischen der patriarchalisch regierten Familiensphäre und der Politikwelt her. Haushofer antizipiert somit – auf metaphorischem Wege – die NS-Debatte in Österreich, indem sie nach den Wurzeln der NS-Ideologie in den familiären Strukturen sucht.

    Art and Artists in City Space. Political and Economic Conditions of Art-based Revitalisation / Gentrification in Poland in both the Communist and Neo-liberal Reality: Elbląg Biennale of Spatial Forms and Gdańsk Shipyard case studies

    Artykuł w sposób komparatystyczny podejmuje zagadnienie wprowadzenia nowych form sztuki, w funkcji rewitalizacyjnej bądź gentryfikacyjnej, w przestrzeń miasta w dwóch różnych realiach polityczno-ekonomicznych: w komunistycznej i wolnorynkowej Polsce. Zostanie przeanalizowane zjawisko biennale, organizowanych szczególnie często w dekadzie lat 60. na przykładzie I Biennale Form Przestrzennych w Elblągu z 1965 roku, jak również współczesne procesy rewitalizacyjne przestrzeni miasta poprzez aktywność artystów – przypadek Stoczni Gdańskiej. Wymienione zjawiska natury artystycznej zostaną osadzone w realiach polityczno-ekonomicznych, odpowiednio Polski komunistycznej dekady lat 60., balansującej pomiędzy wolnością artystyczną a politycznymi ograniczeniami oraz Polski współczesnej, po transformacji 1989 roku, w której uwarunkowane ekonomicznie działania artystów na rzecz rewitalizacji dawnych terenów postoczniowych ścierają się z twardymi prawami wolnego rynku.

    Artistic Labyrinths and the Tower of Babel. A Comparative Look at the Exhibitions: Documenta 5, Les Immatériaux and Labyrinth – an Underground Space

    In this article, I would like to compare three exhibitions: documenta 5 in Kassel (1972), Les Immatériaux at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (1985) and Labyrinth – An Underground Space at the Church of the Ascension of Christ in Warsaw (1989). These exhibitions are different in terms of their scale, fame, works presented and venue, and marked by different local contexts. The visions of art that the organisers – Harald Szeemann, Jean-François Lyotard and Janusz Bogucki – wanted to articulate through them seem to me an ideal example of reflecting on the integrity or heterogeneity of contemporary artistic activity. It is clear that the exhibitions discussed here were based on a pattern of wandering with the inherent figure of the tower-labyrinth of Babel. Therefore, the topos of the Tower of Babel, revolving around the theme of unity and dispersion, is quite fundamental to these reflections. Bogucki and Lyotard were to some extent similar in their diagnosis of contemporary art, which they saw in terms of dispersion and a great diversity of styles, motivations and references to reality – just like Szeemann, in fact. While Bogucki was searching for some universal ground of understanding in a situation of "confusion of tongues" in the sphere of spirituality, Szeemann delved into and explored separate artistic worlds operating in the registers of triviality and spirituality. In comparison, Lyotard, like other postmodernists, described dispersion as a condition inherent in the present.

    Der vorliegende Beitrag präsentiert die in "Chronik meiner Straße" entwickelten Strategien der literarischen Topographie. Die Autorin des Artikels versucht, den im Schreibverfahren skizzierten topographischen Elementen im neuesten Buch Barbara Honigmanns nachzuspüren. Der Text wird in Anlehnung an die Raumkonzeptionen von J. Hillis Miller, Michel Foucault und Marc Augé interpretiert.

    Behind the Early Modern English Translation of The Laws of Oléron: Determining the Underlying French Text

    The objective of this paper is to analyse the sixteenth-century French texts which might lie behind an Early Modern English translation of a sea-code known as the Laws of Oléron, in an attempt to determine which of them served as the actual basis for the rendition. The original code has been dated back to the thirteenth century, with the earliest extant copies coming from the fourteenth century, at which point it was already known and used in England. It was not, however, before the sixteenth century that a translation was commissioned and appeared in a book called The Rutter of the Sea. The publication in question went through multiple editions and the views concerning the French text that served as the basis for the rendition diverge greatly. This paper analyses the various proposed theories and juxtaposes the actual French texts with each other and the Early Modern English translation.

    Bizneswoman, biznesmenka, kobieta biznesu, przedsiębiorczyni czy kobieta przedsiębiorcza? Nazewnictwo kobiet związanych z biznesem we współczesnym dyskursie publicznym

    Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza wariantywnych jednostek nazewniczych występujących we współczesnym dyskursie publicznym i odnoszących się do kobiet działających w biznesie. Celem analiz jest wyjaśnienie przyczyn istniejącej wariancji w perspektywie językowej (systemowo-stylistycznej) i pozajęzykowej (polityczno-społeczno-kulturowej). Badania kontekstów funkcjonowania analizowanych jednostek przeprowadzono na materiale pozyskanym z kwerend słownikowo-korpusowych oraz z ekscerpcji własnej. Ze względu na dyskursywne uwikłanie osobowych nazw żeńskich osobnej weryfikacji poddano narracje komunikacyjne środowisk kobiecych. Przedstawiona dyskusja skłania do następujących wniosków: 1) obecna w dyskursie publicznym wariantywność analizowanych jednostek jest efektem przemian w języku i komunikacji uwarunkowanych czynnikami kulturowo-społecznymi po przełomie 1989 roku oraz po przyłączeniu Polski do UE w 2004 roku; 2) istniejące nazewnicze rozwiązania alternatywne to wynik zarówno różnych typów i etapów procesu adaptacji anglicyzmu businesswoman w polszczyźnie przy jednoczesnej konkurencji ze strony rodzimych form, jak i sprzężenia tych zjawisk ze zmianami komunikacji kobiecych środowisk biznesowych; 3) wybory nazewnicze mają uzasadnienie stylistyczne i dyskursywne; 4) najnowsza w badanym zbiorze jednostka kobieta przedsiębiorcza staje się jedną z językowych manifestacji biznesowej emancypacji Polek.

Rysunek stanowi reprezentatywny przykład rysunkowej twórczości Norwida z drugiej połowy lat 40. XIX w.

    Cardinal Virtues in the Basil of Caesarea’s Writings. Philological and Historical Aspect

    The four cardinal virtues (prudence, moderation, justice and bravery) are frequently mentioned in the writings by the Bishop of Caesarea. Basil, as a theologian, writes about them in the context of Christian ethic and moral principles. The cardinal virtues are to help human beings achieve salvation, which is the main aim in the life of every confessor of Christ. Thus, one can say that these virtues are christocentrically directed. Basil based his analyses mainly on the ethical ideas of Plato, Aristotle and Plotinus. However, as a Christian intellectual, h4e went far beyond the scheme of these four virtues suggested by the Greek thinkers. The article consists of two parts. The first part contains mainly bibliographical information on the meaning of two notions: ἀρετή and virtus. The second part is the analysis of cardinal virtues in Basil’s writings and connections of Bishop of Caesarea’s aretology with Greek philosophy. Also here a lot of space is devoted to bibliographical information contained in the footnotes. In this way the article fulfils two functions: on one hand it gives the reader a useful bibliography, while on the other it presents the idea of cardinal virtues on the basis of the writings by Basil of Caesarea.

    Categorial heterogenity: Old English determiners

    This paper examines the syntactic properties of two structures illustrated in (1) and (2): 1) his þone readan gim // his the red gem // ‘his red gem’ / (coblick,HomU_18_[BlHom_1]:9.125.121), 2) þæs his cwides // that his saying // ‘that saying’ / (coblick,LS_17.1_[MartinMor[BlHom_17]]:215.79.2742). Example (1) features a possessive – determiner sequence, which is characterized by the obligatory occurrence of both an adjective and simple determiners of the paradigm se/seo/þæt (Mitchell 1985: §103-112). The reversed order (determiner – possessive) does not display such restrictions. In particular, the adjective is optional and compound determiners (þes/þeos/þis) are also licit in these sequences, as shown in example (2). The analysis proposed in this paper accounts for these facts by assuming that Old English determiners are not a homogeneous group because they combine both adjectival (specifier) and pronominal (head) properties.
