    Mutuality of Scripture, Metaphysics and Dogmatics. Basic Hermeneutical Insight in Pope Benedict XVI "Jesus of Nazareth"

    The subject of this article is the Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI trilogy on Jesus of Nazareth. Central to the analysis is an attempt to reconstruct the place and role of metaphysics in the Pope’s analysis and, more broadly, in his understanding of biblical hermeneutics. One of the central ambitions of our author was to develop an integral method of reading and understanding Scripture, in which historicalcritical, metaphysical and dogmatic themes presuppose and complement each other. The article first examines the modalities of the appearance of metaphysical threads in Benedict XVI’s meditations, then analyzes his understanding of prayer in a metaphysical key, and finally sketches the concept of a new human being made possible by the work of Jesus and needing metaphysical categories to be fully described. Thus, it turns out that Ratzinger was able to show a truly biblical metaphysics in Jesus of Nazareth and prove that metaphysical thinking is not at odds with the assumptions of the historical-critical method, if the latter, of course, is not understood in a reductionist manner and in accordance with modern prejudices. In this way, I argue, Ratzinger sketches in his trilogy an integral theological method for reading the biblical text and ultimately synthesizes the biblical, metaphysical and dogmatic approaches.

    Teologia nicejska. Historyczna i systematyczna propozycja interpretacyjna Lewis’a Ayres’a

    Tematem artykułu jest interpretacja teologii nicejskiej zaproponowana przez Lewisa Ayresa w jego monografii Nicaea and its Legacy. Główną część stanowi tu analityczna prezentacja dwóch istotnych momentów propozycji Ayresa. Po pierwsze chodzi o wyodrębnienie cech wspólnych wielości interpretacji powstałych po wydarzeniu nicejskim, które jest konieczne do utrzymywania istnienia historycznego fenomenu teologii, którą można by określić ogólnie jako nicejską. Po drugie, zgodnie z wyjściową intencją autora wyodrębniony wcześniej zbiór cech istotnych i charakterystycznych dla teologii nicejskiej zostanie przestawiony jako uniwersalny paradygmat dla teologii trynitarnej i teologii systematycznej w ogóle. W zakończeniu artykułu dokonana zostanie wstępna ocena zdobyczy wkładu ujęcia Ayresa, szczególnie z perspektywy pracy teologa systematyka. W ten sposób zostanie wyartykułowane istotne dla naszego autora przekonanie o jedności systematyki teologicznej, dogmatyki i teologii historycznej. Ayres nie proponuje zatem jakiegoś sztywnego inmartwego powrotu do Nicei, ale ukazuje ją jako wydarzenie określające istotny cechy warsztatu teologa. The subject of this article is the interpretation of Nicene theology proposed by Lewis Ayres in his monograph Nicaea and its Legacy. The main part here is an analytical presentation of two important moments of Ayres' proposal. First, it is a matter of isolating the common features of the multiplicity of interpretations that arose after the Nicaean event, which is necessary to maintain the existence of the historical phenomenon of a theology that could be generally described as Nicaean. Secondly, in accordance with the author's initial intention, the previously extracted set of essential and characteristic features of Nicean theology will be repositioned as a universal paradigm for Trinitarian theology and systematic theology in general. The article will conclude with a preliminary assessment of the achievements of the contribution of Ayres' approach, especially from the perspective of the work of a systematic theologian. This will articulate our author's essential belief in the unity of theological systematics, dogmatics and historical theology. Ayres, therefore, does not propose some rigid inanimate return to Nicaea, but portrays it as an event that defines an essential feature of the theologian's workshop.
