    Artykuł jest pierwszym z planowanego cyklu prezentującego wyniki autorskich badań nad prasą katolicką wydawaną w Polsce po 1989 roku w ujęciu całościowym. Przedstawiono w nim aktualny stan badań nad tym typem prasy, jej zarys historyczny, definicje, typologię i funkcje. Opracowanie jest wstępem do badań nad znaczeniem prasy katolickiej w Polsce oraz analizą formalno-treściową wybranych tytułów. Zaprezentowano w nim naczelne pytania i obszary badawcze oraz wskazano na główne problemy związane z badaniami prasy katolickiej. The article is the first in a planned series presenting the results of the author’s research on the Catholic press published in Poland after 1989 from a holistic perspective. It presents the current state of research on this type of press, its historical outline, definitions, typology and functions. The study is an introduction to research on the importance of the Catholic press in Poland and a formal and content-based analysis of selected titles. It presents the main research questions and areas, and points out the main problems associated with the study of the Catholic press.
