    Chrześcijańskie i starozakonne szpitale na łamach czasopisma „Zdanie Sprawy z Czynności Rady Głównej Opiekuńczej Instytutów Dobroczynnych w Roku…” (1833-1869[1870])

    W latach 1832-1870 w Królestwie Polskim funkcjonowała Rada Główna Opiekuńcza (Rada Główna Opiekuńcza Szpitali), która edytowała własny periodyk (rocznik) pt. „Zdanie Sprawy z Czynności Rady Głównej Opiekuńczej Instytutów Dobroczynnych w Roku…”. Czasem ukazywał się on nieregularnie i często zmieniał tytuł. Pierwszy rocznik datowany na 1833 rok opuścił prasy drukarskie w 1834 roku, a ostatni z 1870 roku ukazał się w 1872 roku, czyli już po likwidacji Rady Głównej Opiekuńczej. Analizowany w artykule periodyk edytowany był w Warszawie i miał charakter urzędowy oraz normatywno-prawny. Publikowany był w języku polskim, a po powstaniu styczniowym w wersji polskiej i rosyjskiej; tylko ostatni tom wydano w języku rosyjskim. Periodyk wychodził w okresie wzmożonych przemian zachodzących w zakresie funkcjonowania opieki zdrowotnej i dobroczynności publicznej. Wówczas bowiem ukształtował się dzisiejszy typ szpitali zajmujących się lecznictwem. Z racji nadzoru nad placówkami leczniczymi i dobroczynnymi (religijnymi, świeckimi, prywatnymi), otrzymywane od nich sprawozdania stanowiły podstawę do prezentowana na łamach analizowanego rocznika szczegółowych danych dotyczących ich działalności w latach 1833-1870. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie periodyku jako wiarygodnego źródła do badań nad wieloaspektowym funkcjonowaniem oraz finansowaniem chrześcijańskich i starozakonnych szpitali, a także zakładów dobroczynności publicznej działających w Królestwie Polskim i będących pod zarządem Rady Głównej Opiekuńczej. Dzięki systematycznie publikowanym listom osób należących do Rady Głównej Opiekuńczej oraz Rad Opiekuńczych Powiatowych i Szczegółowych w roku sprawozdawczym, mamy przegląd osób aktywnych na tym polu we wszystkich guberniach Królestwa Polskiego w latach 1833-1870. Reasumując, w analizowanych rocznikach odnaleźć można historię zakładów dobroczynnych funkcjonujących w Królestwie Polskim, składy osobowe zarządów instytucji zajmujących się ochroną zdrowia, systemy funkcjonowania szpitali, ich wyposażenie, organizację pracy, listę personelu medycznego oraz bractw, zgromadzeń zakonnych i różnych stowarzyszeń biorących udział w dobroczynności oraz lecznictwie. Between 1832 and 1870, the Central Welfare Council operated in the Kingdom of Poland and edited its own periodical (annal) entitled Zdanie Sprawy z Czynności Rady Głównej Opiekuńczej Instytutów Dobroczynnych w Roku…. It sometimes appeared irregularly and often changed its title. The first issue dated 1833 left the printing presses in 1834, and the last one of 1870 was published in 1872, that is, after the abolition of the Central Welfare Council. The periodical analysed in the article was edited in Warsaw and had an official and normative-legal character. It was published in Polish, and – after the January Uprising – in Polish and Russian; only the last volume was published in Russian. The periodical was issued at a time of bolstered changes taking place in the operation of health care and public charity. It was at that time that today’s type of hospitals treating the sick was formed. Due to the supervision of medical and charitable institutions (religious, secular, private), the reports received from them formed the basis for presenting detailed data on their activities in 1833–1870 in the pages of the analysed annal. The purpose of the article is to present the periodical as a reliable source for research on the multifaceted functioning and financing of Christian and Old Jewish hospitals, as well as public charity institutions operating in the Kingdom of Poland and under the administration of the Central Welfare Council. Owing to the systematically published lists of the members of the Central Welfare Council and the District and Executive Welfare Councils in the reporting year, we are provided with a list of people active in this field in all governorates of the Kingdom of Poland in the years 1833–1870. In summary, in the analysed annals one can find the history of charitable institutions operating in the Kingdom of Poland, the composition of the boards of directors of health institutions, the systems of operation of hospitals, their equipment, the organization of work, a list of medical personnel, as well as confraternities, religious congregations and various associations involved in charity and treatment.

    Interpretation of the World by Aleksander Bregman, a Far-Sighted Commentator on International Affairs in Exile, in the London-Based "Dziennik Polski i Dziennik Żołnierza"

    The article presents the views and journalistic activities of the foreign-educated doctor of political science, émigré Polish journalist, correspondent, anti-communist Aleksander Bregman, a pioneer of Polish-German reconciliation, who preached the unpopular post-World War II views of German reunification, and the creation of an economic community of European states. This international relations expert was one of the few publicists in exile who managed to make a name for himself outside the circle of the Polish diaspora. Gifted with Benedictine diligence, he left behind countless articles scattered in the émigré press, English, French, Swiss and German journals, as well as many books whose contents are still relevant today. He was also a contributor to Radio Free Europe. Throughout all of his wartime and subsequent exile life in the UK, he was particularly associated with the London-based Dziennik Polski i Dziennik Żołnierza, where he served as editor-in-chief from 1959 to 1962. In Poland, the magazine was completely banned from printing until 1989. Methods used in writing the article: qualitative press content analysis, press, heuristic, historical-critical microbiography.
