    Does the Teaching on the Church Contained in the "Letters" of St. Jerome Fit in with the Demands of the Second Vatican Council?

    The Second Vatican Council formulated its ecclesiological teaching on the basis of the concept of communio. It involved turning to the Bible, the teaching of the Church Fathers and the liturgy. This choice resulted in a move away from the juridical language inherent in pre-secular ecclesiology to a religious language that drew concepts from the Bible and the teaching of the Church Fathers, thus emphasising their theological teaching. One of the extremely important Church Fathers writing in the golden age of theology was Jerome of Stridon. The teaching on the Church contained in his Epistles should be considered from two aspects. First, the monk from Bethlehem is particularly sensitive to the emerging heresies, which he condemns extremely strongly, drawing attention to the threats to the unity of the Church. In the article, the heresy of Pelagianism is presented as an example. The second particularly valuable aspect of Jerome’s ecclesiology is his teaching on the Church based on the proper interpretation of Scripture. Exegesis is the main source of teaching about the Church. This teaching is deeply connected to Christ and to personal experience of faith. Stridonian gives his ecclesiology a Christological meaning, which bears the hallmarks of an eschatological Christology. An ecclesiology understood in this way, based on a correct interpretation of Scripture and pastoral care manifested in warning against the pernicious influence of heresy, is in line with the teaching of Vatican II.

    Homilie Rabana Maura na niedzielę, dni nabożeństw błagalnych oraz o świętych (wybór)

    Praca składa się z dwóch części. We wstępie krótko zreferowałem życiorys Rabana Maura, następnie opisałem jego homilie mając na uwadze tradycję oraz kontekst epoki. W ostatniej części wstępu krótko opisałem treść tłumaczonych przeze mnie homilii. W samych homiliach autor porusza następujące tematy: wierność zasadom religii chrześcijańskiej, przestrzega przed uleganiem wpływom pogaństwa, wyjaśnia najważniejsze prawdy wiary, umacnia własne przepowiadanie poprzez obfite cytowanie Pisma Świętego, a także korzystanie z dorobku Ojców Kościoła. W swoich homiliach Raban Maur porusza także inne tematy, takie jak: udziela przestrogi przed polowaniami i grą w kości w dni świąteczne, zakazuje prowadzenia rozmów w kościele oraz prac w polu w dni świąteczne, prosi o troskę o biednych i niewolników. Sprawy te, wydające się być mniejszej wagi, miały jednak istotne znaczenie dla współczesnych mu ludzi. W przypisach umieściłem najważniejsze uwagi filologiczne, teologiczne, biograficzne oraz geograficzne, pozwalające czytelnikowi właściwie zrozumieć kontekst tłumaczonych homilii.

    Temi cristologici rilevati nelle Lettere di san Girolamo – pars prima

    This article describes the Christological themes that Jerome of Stridon took up in his teaching and which are found in the Letters. They are related to the defence of the truths of faith about the Trinity and to the formulation of Christological doctrine. At the same time, they show the Monk of Bethlehem as a concerned defender of a right theology. The research carried out reveals the Vulgate Author's firm grounding in the era in which he lived. They show both his inscription in the teaching of other Church Fathers after the first two universal councils and the originality of certain thoughts in his teaching. Artykuł opisuje tematy chrystologiczne, które podjął Hieronim ze Strydonu w swoim nauczaniu, a które znajdują się w Listach. Związane są z obroną prawd wiary na temat Trójcy Świętej oraz z formułującą się nauką chrystologiczną. Jednocześnie ukazują Mnicha z Betlejem jako zatroskanego obrońcę prawowiernej teologii. Przeprowadzone badania ukazują mocne osadzenie Autora Wulgaty w epoce w której żył. Pokazują zarówno wpisanie się przez niego w ramy nauczania innych Ojców Kościoła po pierwszych dwóch soborach powszechnych, jak również oryginalność niektórych myśli w jego nauczaniu.

    Walka Hieronima z herezjami chrystologicznymi w świetle nauczania o Chrystusie zawartym w jego Listach

    Artykuł opisuje herezje chrystologiczne występujące w Listach św. Hieronima. Są to arianizm, apolinaryzm, herezje, które głoszą ebionici i nazaretanie, herezje wyznające doketyzm oraz pelagianizm. Autor Wulgaty w opisywanych herezjach wykazuje nie tylko błędy doktrynalne, ale również broni w swoich pismach ortodoksji wiary chrześcijańskiej. Artykuł wskazuje ponadto na istotne zagadnienia w chrystologii, na które zwrócił uwagę Mnich z Betlejem. Chodzi głównie o pomieszanie pojęć w grece i łacinie dotyczących terminów οὐσία i ὐπόστασις (spiritus asper), próbę przywrócenia im właściwego znaczenia, formowanie właściwego znaczenia i rozumienia pojęcia persona, wskazywanie na niebezpieczeństwa pelagianizmu oraz powiązanie go z wcześniejszymi herezjami w celu zwrócenia uwagi na jego zgubne działanie. This article describes the Christological heresies found in the Epistles of St Jerome. These are Arianism, Apolinarianism, the heresies preached by the Ebionites and Nazarenes, the heresies professing Docetism and Pelagianism. In the heresies described, the Author of the Vulgate demonstrates not only doctrinal errors, but also defends the orthodoxy of the Christian faith in his writings. The article furthermore points out the important issues in Christology highlighted by the Monk of Bethlehem. It is mainly concerned with the confusion of concepts in Greek and Latin concerning the terms οὐσία and ὑπόστασις, the attempt to restore their proper meaning, the formation of the correct meaning and understanding of the term persona, the pointing out of the dangers of Pelagianism and the linking of it to earlier heresies in order to draw attention to its pernicious effects.
